During the early and mid-’60s, he worked with such R&B/soul greats as Little Richard, the Isley Brothers, and King Curtis as a backup guitarist. When Hendrix became an international superstar in 1967, it seemed as if he’d dropped out of a Martian spaceship, but in fact he’d served his apprenticeship the long, mundane way in numerous R&B acts on the chitlin circuit. His frequent hurricane blasts of noise and dazzling showmanship - he could and would play behind his back and with his teeth and set his guitar on fire - has sometimes obscured his considerable gifts as a songwriter, singer, and master of a gamut of blues, R&B, and rock styles.

Hendrix was a master at coaxing all manner of unforeseen sonics from his instrument, often with innovative amplification experiments that produced astral-quality feedback and roaring distortion. In his brief four-year reign as a superstar, Jimi Hendrix expanded the vocabulary of the electric rock guitar more than anyone before or since. Label: Various | Genre: Blues Rock, Classic Rock

ANY interesting story will be considered for use compensated with name credit and a free book. Finally, I am doing a book project relating to the many personal accounts of seeing Jimi play live. Can anyone help? My mind staggering audio and film collection is free and open to all. And now, i'm still looking for MORE photos, 8mm film etc. Most of my collection can be seen on the website. I also worked on 99% of the other cd's, dvd's etc. That 1st Dagger release (Oakland 1969) was an example of my rare finds while doing search for audio, film, photos, posters, tickets and ads. Never saw Jimi but worked my way into becoming the contributing photo and film consultant for Jimi's estate in Seattle aka Experience Hendrix for some years now. Still one of the most amazing moments of my life. Wild to see two black, lefties playing Flying V guitars in one night. He had several guitars, including the Flying V and a Les Paul which he did use. He was using Fender amps, which sounded just fine. Lost of laughing and joking, and dancing allnight. He stopped and said "it's been a long time, andI forgot the words (to Summerime). Someone had called out for "some surf music" and Jimi was willing to give a try. He also had a brief stab at Summertime Blues and Walk Don't Run. That was amazing to hear three unreleased songs. He also played Cat Fish Blues and Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window. which has lead me to believe those two songs were related. Jimi opened the frist set with Driving South. The Softs didn't play the rest of the weekend, as Wyatt called Bill Graham a nazi!!Įveryone, except Softs played two sets, as was the norm then. The Soft Machine, John, Mayall and Albert King opened. It was a good one, I was leaning on the front of the stage right in front of Jimi. He still has a print of one, but the negs are long lost. I took two photos with a friend's camera. There are a couple of photos my brother took used as well. I wrote a piece for the Eyewitness 1968 book. Finally, I have over 5,000 photos of Jimi and an endless collection of Jimi and unheard NON-Jimi Fillmore East and West venues audio to offer.
